Meet and Greet with Augmented Reality: “Gormiti The New Era” for Materia

meet & greet con la Realtà Aumentata

Meet and Greet with Augmented Reality is an innovative approach to attract and engage visitors of all ages.

It was tested during the presentation of the new series “Gormiti The New Era”, on October 9, 2024, in Milan.
Born from a collaboration with Materia, a Milan-based company that holds the licensing rights for this IP, the project accompanies the reboot of the iconic Gormiti franchise. To mark the series’ release, Giochi Preziosi launched a new line of toys and action figures.

The series, which premiered last October on Rai 2, addresses themes such as friendship, mutual trust, and courage, with the aim of conveying educational values to its target audience: children and pre-teens.

Thanks to the technological contribution of Code This Lab, Materia Entertainment offered a unique, innovative digital experience during the Meet and Greet. The Augmented Reality photo moment managed to capture the attention of the brand’s young target audience, and not only them.

Even adults enjoyed interacting with the Augmented Reality special effects, allowing visitors to step into the shoes of the heroes of the Island of Gorm.

The Technology

The digital experience developed by Code This Lab was designed to be easily accessible to all event participants.

Anyone who stood in front of the dedicated camera could unleash the Gormiti’s superpowers directly from their hands, choosing among the characters’ signature elements: Water, Earth, Fire, and Air.

The technology developed for the Gormiti Experience represents a kind of evolution of augmented reality. This is because the project introduced a human-gesture tracking system, where the movement marker is the person themselves. In this case, we’re talking about Human Motion Tracking AR, with a particular focus on Hand Tracking.

This type of Augmented Reality focuses on identifying and monitoring human body movements in order to integrate virtual objects or, as in this case, special effects.

It is a technology that is becoming increasingly widespread across various sectors, with the goal of making products and services more engaging. From fitness to gaming, through training and social media, Body Tracking (or Human Motion Tracking) effectively meets multiple needs.

“Gormiti The New Era” was an interactive event that successfully integrated different languages.

The live presence of the Gormiti, wearing their imposing, luminous armor, came together with their symbolic representation through Action Figures and the Augmented Reality visual effects, creating integrated communication that is increasingly close to people’s emotions.
